Fire Prevention Month 2021 October is Fire Prevention Month. Why October? On October 8, 1871 there were two horrible fires that caused massive damage and numerous deaths. The Great Chicago Fire started October 8, 1871, and burned for two days, destroying most of the city. Also on October 8, the Pestigo fire started in northeast Wisconson, a fire which killed over 1,200 people. | |
Personnel Receive New Gear Structural firefighting gear consist of the very basis of firefighting activities. Gear wears out quickly when exposed to high temperatures and rugged "dirty" work. Even with proper cleaning and maintenance, gear will have to be replaced on a regular basis in order to maintain current safety standards and keep our firefighters safe. |
